  17. Let us first take a good look at the Banner of the East in the
  18. Complete Golden Dawn System of Magick (Published by Falcon
  19. Press). On a veil of white is shown a yellow cross of six
  20. squares. Superimposed on the Golden Cross is a red ascending
  21. triangle and a descending blue triangle, and again the interlaced
  22. Hexagram is referred to Tiphareth. In the centre is a little
  23. White Tau, a three-pointed figure.

  25. This Banner is suspended in the East -- that point in the Temple
  26. through which a spiritual Force enters. Nothing more is said
  27. about this Banner or any of the symbols; but I want you to
  28. remember that any of the symbols given in the Golden Dawn are not
  29. to be construed as merely intellectual. Every symbol conceals a
  30. practical formula. There is a considerable formula concealed in
  31. the Banner of the East. In this Banner symbolism is implied an
  32. infinite White Light operating in a balanced way. You have the
  33. red fire of the spirit descending upon the blue waters of
  34. creation in a balanced, harmonious way. It is the balanced state
  35. of Illumination.

  37. The technique implied here is the same. The heart would be the
  38. White Tau. What you want to do is this: Here your imagination can
  39. take the place of a large Banner. Create in your imagination this
  40. large Banner. Imagine yourself superimposed upon the Banner.
  41. Imagine yourself as an enormous cross of gold; then see the red
  42. triangle interlaced with the blue triangle, and in the heart
  43. where Tiphareth is see the White Tau.

  45. What words shall we use as a sympathetic vibration? Two words
  46. which imply a harmonious, balanced state. They are JEHESHUAH,
  47. JEHOVASHAH, that is, YOD-HEH-VAV-HEH and the letter SHIN bursting
  48. through.  (Note: Thelemites may substitute these words with the
  49. name RA-HOOR-KHUIT.) And if we desire to do so, the invocation to
  50. be used would be one which would represent the ascent of the
  51. individual in the Light -- "I am the Resurrection and the Life".
  52. One makes up composite Rituals for one's self, and in this case
  53. you can make one up instead of using "I am the Resurrection ...."
  54. If you understand the basic formula involved you apply it to
  55. everything and thus create your own initiation.

  57. That is all one need to say about this particular formula.

  59. Let us endeavor to do this Ritual collectively, taking one
  60. individual as the subject, and we will see him or her as the
  61. focal point (being placed in the centre of the circle). We shall
  62. see the Banner of the East enveloping the subject; and as it is
  63. the symbolism of Light, it should be a healing symbol. And
  64. remember that the more Light there is working through the system,
  65. the more there is a tendency within to restore equilibrium.

  67. You are the Golden Cross, and superimposed on that the Hexagram
  68. of a red ascending triangle with a blue descending triangle. Your
  69. whole aura, all about you is White. See clearly this White Aura.
  70. The Gold Cross symbolized the equilibrium and balanced man. The
  71. Banner of the East itself hangs on a white pole showing purity
  72. and illumination of the Adept.---
